SURROUND
INSPIRATION
MOOD BOARD
My brother had already passed away due to a brain tumour. The inspiration for my designs comes from this experience. I sought out intriguing images, specifically those generated through MRI scans of the brain. I was drawing inspiration from the shapes within these scans.
Apart from this, life is a cyclical journey from birth to death, a concept I accept as the circle of life. In my Buddhist belief, there's a notion of reincarnation, where individuals are reborn into the human world after death. This unexplainable phenomenon extends to all forms of life, be it humans, animals, or insects. After death, one might be reborn as a different being, possibly not limited to human form.

"Fate holds deep meaning for me. In Chinese, '缘' signifies connection, and when people meet, it's termed '缘分' or fate. My mother believes my brother's birth was fated, bringing him into our family. We shared joyful moments, but fate also led to his untimely departure at 16. It may sound paradoxical, but that's the essence of fate."

"Life unfolds through stages—baby, child, teenager, adult, elder. My brother's journey halted at adolescence, frozen in time. Imagining a potential lifespan of 70, life's value is immeasurable. His illness and premature passing revealed human fragility. Vulnerable to conditions like tumors or excessive blood loss, we must prioritize health. Losing my brother emphasized life's frailty, urging us to grasp its profound significance and safeguard our well-being."

My brother's Remembrance Day coincides with my birthday. November 17, 2022, marks the Remembrance Day for my brother, whereas 23 years ago, it was the day of my birth. Therefore, there are 11.17 number names for my garments.

When you lose something or someone, it leaves you with one precious thing: memories. Photos and videos can capture even a single scene or moment, serving as memories that transport you back to that particular time. Whether it's a small or seemingly mundane event, it remains a valuable memory.
I also add memory elements ad inspiration add in my works.
Me and my brother.
Development inspired by memories
In summary, my inspiration encompasses my brother, his battle with a brain tumour, the concept of reincarnation, fate, life, and memories. I've created this collection as a tribute to him. The use of the name "SURROUND" in my collection aims to convey the message that I want everyone to cherish and pay attention to the people around you. Live wholeheartedly, and together, let's create beautiful memories. Perhaps, one day, they may leave, but what they leave behind are the best memories shared with you.
SILHOUETTE BOARD
Regarding my collection, the garment silhouettes are inspired by the shape of the brain, incorporating surrounding elements. Additionally, my brother's clothing style is integrated into the designs. Within my collection, you can observe shirts, hoodies, as well as various lengths of pants, reflecting my brother's attire as a teenager attending secondary school. He enjoyed experimenting with different clothing combinations, making his fashion sense an integral part of my collection.
COLOUR BOARD
In essence, my colour palette is predominantly based on vibrant colours, white, and beige. The vibrant colours are derived from the brain shapes revealed in MRI scans, which can be seen as evident in various coloured lines within my collection. White and beige serve as the foundational colours for the garments. Combining these elements allows for a dynamic presentation that accentuates the colourful lines.
